Thailand Part 2

I know, I know. I'm kind of failing at the blog thing. It's finally time for me to make another post about my Thailand adventure!

The first actual day in Thailand was spent in Bangkok. It was fun exploring the city and seeing a few Buddhist temples (Wats). It was HOT and humid in the city--a huge change from the Winter weather in Korea! It was a very nice break from the cold.

Something I really enjoyed about this day was noting the differences between a Thai Wat and a Korean Sa.

This was my breakfast. We "had to buy something" at the bar in the hotel to get the wifi password. Which was such a joke. Everyone knew the password but we didn't know at the time.

For brunch (okay we slept in a bit, so what), we ventured out into the wild streets of Bangkok, on the hunt for street food!

We were pretty drained after so much wandering in the heat so next we did one of our favorite in-door activities: exploring a museum! We went to Museum Siam, where we got some much needed background information about the history and culture of Thailand. To be honest, I really didn't know anything about Thailand. But thank goodness for museums (p.s. support your local museums, folks).
We got to the museum via motorized tuk tuk. It was frightening. Thrilling, but not exactly fun.

After a long, full day in Bangkok, we decided to eat at the hotel restaurant. The food was yummy but little did we know, the very best food was yet to come!

I wish I could remember exactly what we ordered...prawns? Something with chicken? A delicious mystery. 

Once we finished eating, we relaxed in the hotel and planned out our next day. We really wanted to go to Chiang Mai. So we made reservations for a flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and for a cool bamboo bungalow place for lodging. Tired, but excited for a new day, we headed off to bed for a well-deserved sleep.

Thailand! Part 1

A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to travel to the warm, beautiful country of Thailand! I bought my airplane tickets back in December, even though I didn't know if I would have a travel buddy. I know there are many women who travel around the world by themselves and I even read a number of empowering blog posts by such women to comfort me as I prepared for a solo trip to Thailand. However. I was never truly comforted. Travelling alone in Korea is no issue anymore. But being a tourist in such an unfamiliar country as Thailand sounds intimidating. And something I've discovered about myself lately is that I really like sharing experiences--to the point where I don't feel like something is worth doing unless I can share it with someone. Going to Thailand alone as a young, single, female, travel-noob, wasn't only scary. It seemed pointless! Regardless, that's exactly what I was planning on doing.

But then, about a week and a half before my vacation, a great and wonderful miracle happened: I found a travel buddy. And that travel buddy was my dad!

I can't even fully express how much of a blessing it was to spend a week exploring Thailand with my dad. Although my family and I Skype plenty, I hadn't seen my dad since I moved to Korea last June. I missed going on adventures with my dad. My Thailand trip would have been extremely different without my dad. I am forever grateful for our adventure.

I'll do a blog post for each day's adventure. Let's start off with our Bangkok arrival!

 My flight arrived in Bangkok a few hours before dad's flight but I didn't mind waiting. It was very, very late by the time he arrived. Of course the first thing we did when we saw each other was hug and cry!

I really should post more right now, but I will save it for the next post. Hopefully this little bit I have written will appease my mom who I know I anxious to see some blog posts about the trip! Sorry it's taken so long. The sad part about going on a vacation is coming straight home to work and getting caught up in life again so quickly!
